This necklace was made with rare, vintage, champagne pink uranium glass beads. It is a romantic piece inspired by jewelry of the 1920's. All of the glass 4mm beads, and the glass pendant, are more than several decades old, and considered vintage beads. They are "new old stock" meaning they were purchased in new condition, but preserved old stock. All of the glass beads on this necklace were produced in Czechia, and purchased directly from artisans in Prauge.
The pendant is a 5x48mm piece of uranium glass mounted on a 18k gold plated bail. 4mm faceted champagne pink uranium beads are strung on two strands with gold plated accent beads. The lower strands contain four 12x9mm uranium glass leaf beads with aurora borealis finishing. A heart shaped 18k gold plated toggle closure holds this necklace together.
This necklace measures 18.5 inches long, when laid flat and open.
Necklace comes gift wrapped, and with a keychain UV flashlight.
**Uranium glass contains minute amounts of uranium dioxide, and glows under UV black light. Uranium glass level of radioactivity varies by piece, ranging from less than 1 percent to up to 25 percent by weight, but there is no recognized danger to handling or using uranium glass, according to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Uranium glass beads are even further diluted than the glass in glassware, as it is mixed with other glass to make the beads. Under 50CPM is normal levels of background radiation. Under 100CPM is not thought to have any health effects. Outside air in the United States of America averages around 25CPM. I check all my pieces with a geiger meter to make sure they clock in at safe levels.**
